HÜDIG Seminar on ABC of Dewatering

The first training dates on dewatering took place in North Germany during the first weeks of this year.

In the cold time of the year when it is often quieter on construction sites due to the weather conditions, this was a welcome change – combined with the benefit to add theoretic knowledge to the practical skills. For nearly two weeks, HÜDIG staff gave so-called in-house seminars on dewatering by means of vacuum technique with different companies.

10 interested civil engineering companies had already registered in the past year for the trainings. The number of participating foremen, site managers, planners, building yard managers, workshop managers and also a few general managers was between 6 and 20 employees, depending on the company’s size. The trainings were kept compactly regarding content and took two hours maximum.

For the largest participants group, the rooms of BZT Osnabrück (training centre of Chamber of Crafts in Osnabrück) offered the best conditions for the lecture. A leading civil engineering company from that region gave their entire civil engineering department (consisting of 19 groups, nearly 60 employees) the chance to attend this seminar. Knowledge has been provided concerning assessment of the necessary geological basic requirements for dewatering by means of vacuum technique, the correct installation of a dewatering unit, as well as the different active principles of modern vacuum units and piston pumps. Furthermore, the HÜDIG technologies and the structure of electro respectively Diesel vacuum pump technique was shown. In some cases the practical verification of the units’ performance could be demonstrated with existing units at site.

Every participant got a certificate from HÜDIG confirming successful attendance at the seminar. As a whole, the in-house seminars have been assessed as very good and very helpful by the responsible persons. Our objective was to provide information with little “knacks” which allow a successful and efficient dewatering process.
