“Hard Core Application” of HÜDIG Electro Vacuum Units at the Koralm Tunnel in Austria

In southern Austria the Koralm tunnel stretches for almost 33 km; it also passes through the mountain massif of the Koralpe. The objective of the tunneling industry is to connect emerging economic areas in Austria. However, a lot of work is still to be done before the trains can transport humans and goods in this area as fast as possible in 2023.

In order to prevent the construction measures from becoming in arrears, an efficient and constant dewatering is necessary. HÜDIG electro vacuum units of type HC 468/25 and HC 468/15 are used for this purpose. The small and compact electro vacuum unit with a maximum conveying capacity of 140 m³/h or 122 m³/h has been created for such applications despite the difficult conditions underground. The installation of a high-quality wastewater pump inside the unit ensures that there is no problem with the pumping of lime- or sand-contaminated groundwater. Thus, under these circumstances, we can also ensure a long service life of our aggregates and contribute to efficient and cost-effective dewatering.
