Application of Grindex submersible pumps in a dry dock

Task:

The drainage discharges of a dry deck at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg were blocked by mud and sludge. Even the inflows to the installed bilge pumps were clogged by sedimented solid substances. The dry-mounted self-priming pumps which have been provided by the local fire brigade and the THW (Technical Assistance Orginaisation) could only dewater the water level by 5,5 m due to the maximum permissible suction height. Further 8 m had to be dewatered within shortest time as they were certain deadlines to meet. Explanation for this is the shipyard’s shift working system at seven days a week.

Messrs. Hermann Kassens Bauunternehmung GmbH has been entrusted with this task by the customer, Meyer Werft GmbH & Co. KG. The company is very familiar with dewatering works resulting from experiences of their main business, and they decided to bail the dock by means of submersible drainage water pumps. They selected Grindex as brand of the submersible drainage water pumps to be used. Following pump types were necessary:

Folgende Pumpentypen waren erforderlich:

• 3 x Grindex–submersible drainage pump type Matador 
• 1 x Grindex-submersible drainage pump type Maxi
• 1 x Grindex-submersible drainage pump type Magnum

These pumps as well as necessary accessories were rented with HÜDIG rental service. It should be mentioned that supply and installation of the equipment was arranged on a Sunday.

The main thing is that the job was done to customer’s full satisfaction. Additionally the customer underlined that a quick drainage of the dock would not have been possible without the selected pump system.
