Tree planting campaign in the forest plot of the Hüdig company in Celle

When Heinrich Hüdig bought the site in Celle in 1957, today's industrial area on the B241 was located far outside Altencelle and had a significant proportion of pine forest, some of which still exists today.

From a silvicultural point of view, this was thinned for the first time in winter 2021. Since the stand became somewhat sparser as a result, a storm in February 2022 caused even more damage, so that further trees fell victim to the wind here. For this reason, the Hüdig company decided to carry out a forest project here and organized a planting day on a weekend in March 2023.

With the help of volunteers, who were also supported by family members and friends, 3,500 trees were planted under the expert guidance of an employee interested in forestry and his 16-year-old daughter, who wants to learn the profession of forester.

For this purpose, special tree species were chosen to defy climate change, as they should be able to cope with the slow global warming and the ever decreasing precipitation. Sycamore maple, sweet chestnut, bird cherry, coastal fir, silver fir, Douglas fir and the Turkish fir were planted. The latter tree species in particular has been planted very little in Germany to date, making this an absolute pilot project.

After the work was done, the hard-working helpers were provided with warm and cool drinks, and on top of that, appropriately for a forest planting day, there were wild game burgers and wild cheese grills, which tasted very good to everyone.

The Hüdig company would like to thank all the volunteers as well as their family members and friends who supported the campaign on this day and thus all left a green footprint. Special thanks to the accountant Mr. Niebuhr and his daughter Laura for the great preparation and organization.

We hope that all trees will grow well and that we could give something back to nature.
